By Henry Graff, NBC 29

Cindy Sheehan, the peace activist who's made national headlines, made a stop in Charlottesville.

Sheehan addressed a large crowd on the downtown mall calling for the president to be impeached. But the anti-war protestors weren't the only people out. Dozens of counter rally people took to the mall to spread their message of "win the war." But Sheehan says the Bush Administration was wrong to go to war.

Anti-war protestors' visit, rally spark counter-march

By Seth Rosen, Daily Progress, Charlottesville, Va.

As prominent anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan stepped to the microphone Friday night outside the Charlottesville Ice Park, John Pulliam raised his sign above his head and began to shout.

"Win the war. Win the war," Pulliam, a retired soldier who fought in the first Gulf War, methodically chanted. In front of him, a middle-aged couple looked back, shook their heads and began cheering for Sheehan, hoping to drown out Pulliam's baritone. Pulliam retorted by hoisting his sign higher and raising his voice. Those around him responded by yelling louder.

Article and video are here. Video says a group plans a "counter rally" described as a "pro-America" and "pro-victory" rally in front of the Paramount theater, as if the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and impeachment are anti-American, as if you can win the occupation of someone else's country.

"Give War a Chance" Journey for Humanity and Accountability Day 9

By Cindy Sheehan

Being in the deep south has been a very interesting experience. As George's approval numbers hover down some where in Congress's range and approval for their war is shrinking, we have encountered very little opposition to our message, but the opposition we have encountered has been vile, abusive and potentially dangerous.

In Houston, one of the more active kingdoms of war profiteering, we encountered no protest. As a matter of fact, while we were stationed on a bridge over I-10 holding our "Impeach Bush and Cheney" and "Troops home now" signs, we had almost 100% approval. People were actually stopping their cars to applaud us and in some cases, join us.

Go for it, Cindy!

By Ernest Partridge, Crisis Papers

Cindy Sheehan has announced that if Speaker Nancy Pelosi does not put impeachment “on the table,” Sheehan will run against Pelosi in 2008 as an independent.

Establishment Democrats are appalled. At a time when the Party must unite for the coming campaign, they complain, along comes this “outsider” to divide the Party’s base support. Furthermore, challenges such is this, and even worse, primary challenges, divert campaign funds. And finally, Nancy Pelosi, a stalwart liberal, does not deserve such treatment.

Cindy Sheehan: Impeach or else

Anti-war activist takes on “untouchable” Democrats
BY SCOTT WEAVER, C-ville Weekly, Charlottesville, Va.

On June 20, anti-war activist and perennial pain-in-POTUS’-ass, Cindy Sheehan, will lead a rally on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall. Sheehan—who in May quit her anti-war activism in disgust only to return recently—is traveling to Washington, D.C., to call for the impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. She’s also announced that she’ll run against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi if Pelosi doesn’t back impeachment by July 23. Here’s some of Sheehan’s conversation with C-VILLE while she was on the road to Montgomery, Alabama.

Cindy Sheehan gave C-VILLE an exclusive interview in advance of her Charlottesville anti-war protest on July 20.

C-VILLE: What prompted your return to activism?

Cindy Sheehan: I always planned on coming back in a humanitarian group called People for Humanity. But when George Bush commuted “Scooter” Libby’s sentence, that really pulled me back in. While I was away, George’s “surge” had been disastrous. Then Dick Cheney says he’s not in the executive branch and doesn’t have to turn over his papers to the National Archives. That was just another flagrant abuse of executive power. It was just the last straw. I had to get back in earlier. I have been deeply disappointed with the Democratic leadership since they took over office. I had no illusions they were going to make much of a difference. Even before they were elected, Nancy Pelosi said impeachment was off the table.

CALLING FOR IMPEACHMENT OF BUSH, CHENEY
Anti-war activist likely to face opposition
By EMILY S. ACHENBAUM, Charlotte Observer

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan will be in Charlotte today for two rallies calling for the impeachment of President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. A counter-rally has also been scheduled.

Sheehan, one of the best-known opponents of the war in Iraq, ended a self-imposed retirement earlier this month after Bush commuted the prison sentence of former White House aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby. Libby had been convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice in the CIA leak case.

Journey for Humanity and Accountability, Day 7
By Cindy Sheehan

The Journey for Humanity and Accountability took a two days hiatus in Charlotte, NC while I traveled home to the Bay Area to attend the memorial service of a dear friend of mine. The rest of the group used the time in Charlotte to repair tires, rest, catch up on emails
and help work on the next few stops. In the meantime, to the consternation of the Democratic blogosphere, Speaker Nancy Pelosi has 7 more days to put impeachment back on the table. Very few people on these blogs recognize the fact that it's not my fault that Ms. Pelosi is not doing her job.

Peace activist Sheehan argues with man outside Ala. Capitol

By Associated Press

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan got into an argument with a man Thursday outside the Alabama State Capitol.

The visit to Montgomery was part of Sheehan's 17-city "Summer of Love '07" protest tour that began Tuesday at President Bush's Crawford, Texas ranch. Footage from Montgomery's WSFA-TV shows a man yelling at Sheehan as she walked away after briefly speaking to reporters.

If Cindy Will 'Run'.... Why Won't You 'Stand'?

By PA Farruggio

Who is Cindy Sheehan? Is she some celebrity, some artist, some politician? No, she is a simple woman, by her own definition, who led a simple life for most of her 40 something years. Then, to suffer one of the most terrible traumas a mother can suffer.... she lost her son. Her boy, the child she carried 9 months in her womb, that most precious of gifts that our Creator bestows upon us. I have heard stories about my late mother, and how she carried her first child, for the full term, only to hear the news, as she lay half awake in her stupor, that he had strangled on her umbilical cord, and that he was born..... dead! I do believe that the death of her first born, the gift she too carried within her for 9 months, had devastated her for her whole life. She never fully recovered from that trauma, emotionally or psychologically.

Cindy Sheehan to Run Against Nancy Pelosi in 2008

By Matthew Cardinale, Atlanta Progressive News

(APN) ATLANTA "Nancy Pelosi had no business taking impeachment off the table. Because Article Two, Section Four of the Constitution says the President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States shall be removed in office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. It says shall be removed. It doesn’t say if the Speaker says impeachment is an optional menu item," Cindy Sheehan told Atlanta Progressive News in a phone interview.

Strange Bedfellows

By Cindy Sheehan

Since I announced my challenge to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi a few days ago, I have been very thrilled that issues like impeachment and the inherent corruption of the "two" party system have been brought to the forefront of public discourse. Every interview that I have done has given me the opportunity to throw the impeachment issue out there. The democratic blogosphere has predictably lined up against me and must be very frightened because they are repeating the scandalous lies of the right. Wow, the right and left are finding common ground over slandering me. I must be a uniter.
