Michael Moore defends Tony Bennett on 9/11 and US terrorism
"Who are the terrorists? Are we the terrorists? Or are they the terrorists?" said Tony Bennett, when asked about 9/11. Just as with the Dixie Chicks, Michael Moore, Bill Maher, and others before him, this triggered an avalanche of bigotted hatred in the right-wing media and on the Internet, including death threats. Filmmaker Michael Moore faced the same barrage of bile after his Oscar acceptance speech. In this video Moore defends his and Tony Bennett's right to voice an opinion on 9/11.
Like Michael Moore, Tony Bennett has always opposed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has been a lifelong supporter of progressive causes. In the 1960s, he marched shoulder to shoulder with Martin Luther King in the fight for black civil rights. He is pictured here with Martin Luther King and the singer and civil rights' activist Harry Belafonte.
