Redact This! An Interactive eBook: Artists Against Torture
David Schwittek posted an announcement 6 days ago "I believe that Redact This! is important in documenting and protesting our country's inhumane, unjust, and ineffective treatment of prisoners..."That's what artist and Redact This! contributor Frances Jetter says about why she got involved in the project. Please share with your friends and tell them why you support Redact This!
Artist and filmmaker Mairéad McClean told us why she supports Redact This! Artists Against Torture, and her story blew us away!

Watch this video to see her own personal reasons for supporting this project, and please share this message and this campaign!
In her words:
"REDACT THIS is much more than a worthy project. It is also one that the vast majority of people would find too difficult to handle. It's heartening to know that there are others who have the inspiration and courage to take it on."
– Mairéad McClean, Artist/filmmaker
Thank you for sharing your inspiring story with us, Mairéad!

Hello Redact This! Supporter,
Thank you again for your support!
Redact This! Artists Against Torture isn't just for the art world, and it's not just for the human rights community. The work in this book is helping to expose the issue of torture to every demographic. Look what these Manhattan College students had to say about the project after presenting it to them last year:
“I didn’t realize that torture was such a prevalent issue in the world, and I don’t think that I’m the only one."
“The images from Abu Ghraib stood out the most to me due to the explicit torturous acts that were occurring within the images. I could not believe that a place such as this existed only a few years ago, and that it was a complete violation of human rights.”
“The artworks are very beautiful and well drawn, my favorite being Jenny Holzer’s 'Water Board'. Her artwork is that the whole page has redacted words except for two words in the middle, 'water board'. It’s a simple but strong message to the public.”
“The publication of this eBook would help to educate and make people more mindful of this subject, since torture isn’t really one of the things that immediately comes to mind when we think about all of the issues in the world today."
We only have 19 days to reach our funding goal. Now that you've donated to the project, please help keep the momentum going by sharing on your social networks.
Thank you again!

"When talking about torture, you can describe it and it’s moving when you describe it, but if you can portray it visually, it would add considerable depth. I hope that people will lend their support to the Redact This project." - Prof. Noam Chomsky
On February 19 at 12pm, David Schwittek, creator of Redact This! Artists Against Torture, gave an interview and discussion about the Redact This! project.
Go to http://vimeo.com/88081072 to see this video.
Redact This! is a collective, artistic response to acts of torture at Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay, and CIA black sites, containing the work of internationally recognized artists Fernando Botero, Jenny Holzer, Richard Serra, Dread Scott, Sandow Birk, Steven Powers, Daniel Heyman, and many others.
Mr. Schwittek was interviewed by Debra Sweet, Director of World Can’t Wait. This interview and informal Q&A session covers the history of the Redact This! project, the artwork and artists in the book, the process of bringing this project to fruition, and its importance to the anti-torture movement.
This discussion was held in the Lehman College Art Gallery, Bronx NY.
