Video: Stop the Incinerator March/Rally Held in South Baltimore

By BillyClub - Posted on 19 December 2013

On a cold Wednesday afternoon, December 18th, social justice activists marched and rallied in South Baltimore. The issue: “Stop the Incinerator.” A New York-based company, “Energy Answers,” is looking to construct a $1 billion incinerator in the Curtis Bay/Fairfield area, only a mile or so from two public schools; one located in Curtis Bay and another in Brooklyn. If built, it would be the largest incinerator of its kind in the U.S. Governor Martin O’Malley and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who have reportedly received political contributions from “Energy Answers,” support the project. According to the “United Workers,” the neighborhoods which will be directly impacted have already registered “some of the nation’s highest levels of toxic air pollution.” To learn more, go to “United Workers,” on Facebook, “Stop the Incinerator! Fight for Fair Development." On this video, you will see a short clip of the march and brief comments by student/activist, Charles Graham, and organizer, Luis Larin.
