War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death
Featuring Norman Solomon
And narrated by Sean Penn
“The first casualty of war is truth...but it need not be a fatality.”— Norman Solomon
War Made Easy chronicles how propaganda has been used to sell wars to the American people, revealing how governments bent on war-making have relied on a vast arsenal of public relations tactics to overcome resistance at home and disapproval abroad. The film finds striking parallels between the spin strategies employed by today’s pundits and public officials to build support for the invasion of Iraq, and the information wars waged by earlier administrations, both Democratic and Republican.
War Made Easy brings to the screen media critic Norman Solomon's insightful analysis of the strategies used by administrations to promote their agendas for war, from Vietnam to Iraq. By familiarizing viewers with the techniques of war propaganda, War Made Easy encourages us to think critically about the messages put out by today's spin doctors - messages that are designed to promote and prolong a policy of militarism under the guise of the "war on terror."
Shattering the illusion that a free press is immune to propaganda, War Made Easy provides ample evidence of the media’s complicity in championing the government’s case for war.
Based on the book of the same title, featuring narration by actor, director and activist Sean Penn.
Tickets include admission to the film screening and special Q&A with director Loretta Alper of the Media Education Foundation and Norman Solomon.
