Fallout of British memo

June 14, 2005
San Francisco Chronicle

Editor -- Your article on the Downing Street memo ("British memo shows
pre-invasion doubts," June 12) failed to mention the rising public outcry as word gets out that the Bush administration "fixed" the intelligence to
justify an invasion of Iraq.

When Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., wrote a letter to President Bush demanding answers to the serious questions raised by the memo, he asked for 100,000 citizens to sign on.

There are now about 500,000 signatures, which the congressman will attempt to deliver to the president after a congressional hearing Thursday.

The article also failed to mention the implications of this memo. If Bush
indeed engaged in a conspiracy to deceive Congress and the American public about the reasons for going to war, this constitutes a high crime and is ground for impeachment.

While the White House is determined to see the Downing Street memo fade into oblivion, our coalition is determined to shine the spotlight on it.
