RICE in Middle East and Europe: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will travel to the Middle East and Europe from June 17-23, 2005. Secretary Rice will visit Ramallah, Jerusalem, Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia to discuss regional peacemaking efforts, support for democracy and reform throughout the region, and counter terrorism. The Secretary will then travel to Brussels for the International Conference on Iraq, where representatives from over 80 nations and international organizations will come together in support of the Iraqi Transitional Government and its effort to build a free, democratic, and prosperous Iraq. BUSH in Washington DC: President Bush will welcome Prime Minister Phan Van Khai of Vietnam to the White House on June 21. The visit marks the tenth anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic ties in 1995 between the United States and Vietnam. Prime Minister Khai will be the most senior Vietnamese official to visit Washington since that time. The two leaders will discuss ways to further strengthen cooperation on a range of bilateral, regional and international issues. This meeting is particularly timely in light of Vietnam's hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in 2006. [White House, 5/27/05]
