Iraq Moratorium Enters 2nd Year - What's Happening in Your Area?
Friday, September 19, marks the beginning of Year Two for the Iraq Moratorium.
It has been a long year, as the war, the occupation and the killing in Iraq drags on, despite our efforts to bring it to an end.
"It's got to stop! We've got to stop it!" was the phrase we used in launching the Iraq Moratorium a year ago. It rings as true today as it did then. We must keep organizing. We must keep the pressure on, no matter what happens in the November elections, until this bloodshed has ended and all of the troops are home.
Since the Moratorium began a year ago, we've listed more than 1,300 events in 41 states and 256 communities on our website. And those are just the ones we know about. Every month, we hear about others who are taking action on the Third Friday of the month, but haven't listed the events.
Which brings us to the point: We'd like to hear from you about what you are planning for Friday, September 19, whether it is your regular street corner vigil or something special you have planned.
Some events are already posted on our new website, www.IraqMoratorium.com Please check to see if yours is there, and whether the information listed is correct. If it's not there, or you want to add or correct it, please send the details of your event to MoratoriumIraq@gmail.com.
Please include the sponsoring group(s), time, specific location, and any comments or details you'd like to include. The transition to a new website, logo and content has had its share of problems, but we're continuing to improve it every day. Your participation is crucial; we are primarily a clearinghouse for information from local organizers. Please make sure your info is included.
We'd also welcome your comments, suggestions and ideas about where the Iraq Moratorium should go from here. If you have some thoughts about that, please share them.
Thanks for all that you do.
For the Iraq Moratorium,
Bill Christofferson
