Stop the U.S. Chamber of Commerce
Dear
There is one organization that stands in the way of virtually every progressive issue you care about -- the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which has spent almost a billion dollars in the past decade to oppose workplace safety, environmental protection, healthcare reform, and financial regulation. Fortunately, our friends at StopTheChamber.com have been working hard to expose the Chamber and its shameful CEO Tom Donohue, and things are starting to turn around.
Please join this campaign.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is not your local chamber of commerce. It is a rightwing front group for corporate spending on elections and legislation, and spends more than either of the big political parties. The Chamber was the driving force behind the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United.
The Chamber has driven labor law reform off the radar screen, made serious action on climate change unlikely, and watered down healthcare reform, not to mention working for the absence of safety measures that allowed 29 miners to die this month in West Virginia. The Chamber says it plans to spend $100 million to defeat financial regulation, and at least $50 million to defeat progressive candidates in the 2010 mid-term elections.
StopTheChamber.com has been part of a successful campaign to persuade many corporations to withdraw from the Chamber, is persuading candidates not to accept help from the Chamber, and has led the effort that has made a criminal investigation of Massey Energy CEO and Chamber Director Don Blankenship likely.
Send a petition to Congress demanding an investigation into the Chamber’s illegal and unethical activities.
