The protest is in opposition to the war in Iraq and the possible war in Iran, but will develop into a protest of stolen elections should evidence of election fraud emerge. What's needed for impeachment
By Carol Wolman, http://www.opednews.com
There are plenty of legal grounds for impeaching Bush and Cheney. What's missing is political will. Under the present circumstances, this is made up of conviction, courage and cooperation.
First, a refresher- civics 101. The American Revolution was radical because it transferred sovereignty, authority for government, from King George III to "we the people of these United States". Not only did the colonies declare independence from England, but the form of government was changed,- from the European system, ruled by kings and nobles,- to a system of representative democracy. Our model derives from Native American ways, specifically from the Iroquois Federation, which forms much of the basis of our Constitution.
With Election Driven by Iraq, Voters Want New Approach
By ADAM NAGOURNEY and MEGAN THEE, New York Times
WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 — A substantial majority of Americans expect Democrats to reduce or end American military involvement in Iraq if they win control of Congress next Tuesday and say Republicans will maintain or increase troop levels to try to win the war if they hold on to power on Capitol Hill, according to the final New York Times/CBS News poll before the midterm election.
The Torture Election
By Jonathan Schell, www.thenation.com
The Congressional campaign of 2006 slouches toward election day through a grotesque landscape of torture and excuses for torture, scabrous messages from a Congressman to young boys, a Congressional cover-up of the same, murder and countermurder every day in Iraq (a heart-stopping 655,000 Iraqis have died since the invasion, according to a Johns Hopkins study), and nuclear fallout from North Korea (of the political if not the literal kind).

Dems counter Bush attack with Iraq ads
By DAVID ESPO, AP
Campaigning for Republicans, President Bush said Monday that "terrorists win and America loses" if opponents of his Iraq policy triumph in next week's elections. Undeterred, House Democrats countered with television ads critical of the war in several competitive races.
"There's a big national debate in this country about the direction of this war set by President Bush, Defense Secretary (Donald) Rumsfeld and Vice President Cheney, and Democrats think we need to change that policy," said Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel (news, bio, voting record), who heads the Democratic campaign committee.
Progressives won't get party leadership, but seniority brings committee chairs
By Geov Parrish, www.WorkingforChange.org
The punditsphere is abuzz with speculation over what will happen in the 110th Congress next year, when and if Democrats take over one or both houses. Among liberals and progressives, it is an article of faith that winning on Nov. 7 is The Only Thing That Matters, and that the sea change likely in next week's election will by definition make everything better.
A List of Peace Candidates
Just one week remains before midterm elections on Tuesday, November 7, and an increasing number of close races will determine the balance of power in the House and the Senate.
War is the key issue. The occupation of Iraq could continue for decades with escalating debt, more lives lost, and impaired national security. Meanwhile any provocation may lead to a U.S. attack on Iran, one that is likely to ignite a regional or even broader war.
Impeachment vote airs opinions
By Andrew Hellpap, Daily Tribune
http://www.wisconsinrapidstribune.com
Some referendums give directions, while others were meant for voters to be able to share their opinions.
For that purpose, the Wisconsin Rapids Common Council voted Sept. 19 to place a question asking the public if it would support an impeachment investigation of President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
Al-Qaeda Wants Republicans to Win
By Robert Parry, http://www.consortiumnews.com
George W. Bush’s blunt assertion that a Democratic victory in the Nov. 7 elections means “the terrorists win and America loses” misses the point that Osama bin Laden stands to advance his strategic goals much faster with a Republican victory.
Indeed, as U.S. intelligence analysts have come to understand, there is a symbiotic relationship between Bush’s blunderbuss “war on terror” and bin Laden’s ruthless strategy of terrorist violence – one helping the other.
All the President's Lies
By Robert Parry, http://www.consortiumnews.com
Many Americans are cynical about what they hear from politicians – and often with good reason – but perhaps no U.S. political leader in modern history has engaged in a pattern of lying and distortion more systematically than George W. Bush has.
Bush’s lies also aren’t about petty matters, such as some personal indiscretion or minor misconduct. Rather his dishonesty deals with issues of war and peace, the patriotism of his opponents, and the founding principles of the American Republic.

By Michael Janofsky Bloomberg

Film saying they can be manipulated "inaccurate."
Diebold Inc. insisted that cable network HBO cancel a documentary that questions the integrity of its voting machines, calling the program inaccurate and unfair.

Democrats likely to challenge Bush in new Congress
By Tom Baldwin in Washington, http://www.timesonline.co.uk
THE pent-up frustration of antiwar activists in America, who have spent three years longing to investigate both the case for the Iraq war and the conduct of it, will be only partially satisfied if the Democrats seize control of Congress on November 7.
Although two inquiries in Britain, under Lord Hutton and Lord Butler, have already examined the use of intelligence in the build-up to the invasion of Iraq, the Republican majority in both Houses of Congress has prevented any similar scrutiny of George Bush’s Administration.

As Vote Nears, Stances on War Set Off Sparks
By ADAM NAGOURNEY and JIM RUTENBERG, New York Times
WASHINGTON, Oct. 31 — For at least a few hours on Tuesday, President Bush had a chance to relive his victorious campaign of 2004, taking a break from a bleak Republican campaign season as he attacked Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts over the war in Iraq.
Mr. Kerry, the Massachusetts Democrat who was Mr. Bush’s opponent in 2004, is not running for office this year. But the president seized on what he said were Mr. Kerry’s disparaging remarks about the troops — and what Mr. Kerry insisted was a botched joke aimed at Mr. Bush — as he sought to make Mr. Kerry the face of the Democratic Party this fall.

Sen. George Allen's Goons Tackle Man for Asking Question
Letter from Mike Stark
The following is a letter to NBC29 from Mike Stark, the man who was tackled for a comment he made at Senator Allen's campaign stop in Charlottesville on Tuesday.
My name is Mike Stark. I am a law student at the University of Virginia, a marine, and a citizen journalist. Earlier today at a public event, I was attempting to ask Senator Allen a question about his sealed divorce record and his arrest in the 1970s, both of which are in the public domain. His people assaulted me, put me in a headlock, and wrestled me to the ground. Video footage is available here, from an NBC affiliate.
Democratic Congressional Candidate Asks Sheehan Not To Protest Iraq War
By Stephen S. Pearcy
When America’s leading anti-war activist, Cindy Sheehan, got a phone call last week from Jan Brown, wife of Democratic Congressional candidate, Charles D. ("Charlie") Brown, the last thing in the world Cindy expected was a plea from Ms. Brown, "mother-to-mother," that Cindy stay away from a Sacramento anti-war protest. But that’s exactly what she got.
Fortunately for the hundreds of peace activists who showed up at the protest at 16th & Broadway in Sacramento to meet with Cindy, she rejected Ms. Brown’s request, and the event went wonderfully.
