Kucinich to Secretary Clinton: Africa is Not an Imperial Holding of the United States
“There is a difference between diplomacy and threats. Africa is not an imperial holding of the United States; Africa should be left to make its own decisions about its dealings with Libya without undue pressure from the United States. Such heavy-handed pressure from the Secretary of State appears to be in response to efforts by the African Union to facilitate a peace deal to end the war in Libya.
“The United States’ strategic and diplomatic interests would be best advanced by finding a peaceful solution to the conflict in Libya, not by threatening legitimate peace-seeking efforts,” said Kucinich.

"6. Reforming the Current Government Structure
Representatives of the Libyan government and the Transitional National
Council shall call parties forward to participate in a Constitutional drafting
committee, to develop a mechanism to proceed to determine the structure,
composition and enactment of a reform government and to select a
committee to draft a national constitution.
7. Timeline for Reform
a. The Constitutional drafting committee shall issue a report on its
deliberations.
b. A referendum shall be held on the newly drafted Constitution,
and, once it is adopted, national elections will be held.
c. The referendum on the Constitution shall be conducted under the
auspices of independent international observers from the African
Union and the United Nations.
d. Independent international observers shall be asked to monitor
elections."
I see nothing here to suggest that Kucinich believes in the sovereignty of Libya to conduct its own affairs. What I see is a badly disguised call for regime change under the auspices of the UN. You know, the same UN whose Security Council members of the US, UK, & France decided to invade Libya. Maybe BHO will give him another plane ride for his latest performance, but I'm sure not applauding.
One need not be psychic to state that one would be surprised if we left Libya at all. Qaddafi's plans for the institution of a gold dinar as currency for purchase of Libya's oil; its threat to the status of the dollar as the world's reserve currency is nowhere mentioned by Kucinich. Does one presume the "reform government" will pursue the gold dinar? Somehow, one imagines not. Additionally a new
US"NATO" base in Libya will solve the pesky problem of the hq of Africom being stuck in Germany as well; Libya looks to be a nice staging ground for further ambitions in the region now that Qaddafi has provided the infrastructure via the socialized use of Libya's oil money. http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Africa/2010/0823/Libya-s-Qaddafi-taps-fos...
