Trent Lott Spills Beans on Meet the Press
Trent Lott on Meet the Press today.
MR. GREGORY: Let me turn to something that you wrote in your book
about Iraq and put it on the screen: "In the summer of 2002...the
president began lobbying for an open-ended resolution empowering him
to wage war on Iraq.... Bush had made clear his intentions to wage war
on Iraq in several of our private meetings."
What are you speaking about precisely, Senator?
SEN. LOTT: Well, beginning in August that year and into the fall--in
fact, beginning not too long after 9/11--as we had leadership meetings
at breakfast with the president, he would go around the world and talk
about what was going on, where the threats were, where the dangers
were, and even in private discussions, it was clear to me that he
thought Iraq was a destabilizing force, was a danger and a growing
danger, and that we were going to have to deal with that problem.
MR. GREGORY: He has described going to war in Iraq as the last resort
that was a war of necessity. Are you suggesting here that, in fact,
before much of the diplomacy had begun, that the president thought or
believed in his mind that war was an inevitability?
SEN. LOTT: How can I say what was in his mind? But I..
MR. GREGORY: Based on your conversations.
SEN. LOTT: I think he was very much concerned about Saddam Hussein
and the--what he was doing to his people and to his neighbors and the
threat of, you know, weapons of mass destruction. And, by the way,
the intelligence that he was getting, I was getting much of the same.
So if there were errors there, we should look to the--you know, where
that intelligence came from. But I--but the short answer to your
question--I think that he felt like we were going to have to deal with
the problem before some of the diplomatic efforts occurred, and I
don't mean that critically. But it was my impression.

After what Senator Trent Lott said on "Meet the Press" on Sunday, it seems that the anti-war movement is starting to make the Republicans do anything at all costs such as threaten and ridicule Camp Casey, label and chastise those who question the war as "liberal traitors" or "terrorist sympathizers" and so forth to justify what has happened in the past five years. The GOP has always been known as a party of bad ideas and scandal such as the Great Depression with Herbert Hoover, Richard Nixon and his "Checkers" speech in the 1950's and Watergate in the 1970's, Ronald Reagan and the Iran-Contra scandal in the late-80's and now Big Daddy and Jr. Bush putting the country into war, tax cuts for corporate America and high unemployment while trying to suppress the free speech movement of the masses. When will these right-wing weirdoes stop living in their own Disneylands and realize that their same old policies and ideologues do nothing but enrich the wealthy few at the expense of the silenced working poor? America needs to wake up and grow up!!

"American needs to wake up and grow up." How many times have I shared your sentiment. Just can't understand why the hell these people let these people railroad them time and time again. Our country is in great jeopardy as a result of the Bush gang.
Great comment you made!
McClellan better hope he's not in front of the press anytime soon.
What with Lott spilling the beans, Hagel comparing iraq to vietnam, and Dead Wrong
I knew I watched Meet the Press for a reason. Maybe it's getting just darn embarressing to be elected to represent the people of the nation and have them find out that you represent yourself. The Republicans have some real soul searching to do and I say they do it on their own time. I won't be voting for one any time soon.
None of this is worth a damn unless the Dems start to assert themselves and put down an agenda they can all agree on. At present, the Dems just sit around and react to stories like the Trent Lott interview. The Dems need to say what the stand for and stick to it......be proactive and not reactive.
Dubya has double crossed the Zionists-neo's with the new Iraqi constitution. Cheney the crafty cowboy has been in Iran all this time and used AEI-AIPAC as his personal double Intell agency, he is better than Riley master spy.
The noble cause Casey has died for as stated has delivered Iraq into the Persians sphere of influence (as in Rev. Pat)Remember the Iranians are old friends of former CIA-President #41 GHWB who came to power with the Gipper because of their hostage taking and a lot of help from Ted Kopple the pretender liberal
The republicans and the corporations have inslaved the working poor.
They have pushed down the cost of labor to a point that you become a servant to them, sweet deal for them, poverty and despair for the workers. At the same time they start a war and cut educational funds for college. Then they offer money for college if you join the military to defend their freedoms. Another sweet deal for them!!!
They export jobs to china, stir up trouble in every country they do business in and blame all their problems on labor unions.
Wake up people!!!
All of our govt appears crooked and self-serving. If Dems want control returned to them, they need to demonstrate a determination to change the status quo...and do it NOW. Talk is cheap and won't get them what they want. We need to see some action! Now!
