WaPo Editor Furious that People Want Impeachment
By David Swanson
The Washington Post Polling Editor Richard Morin said in a chat:
Naperville, Ill.: Why haven't you polled on public support for the impeachment of George W. Bush?
Richard Morin: This question makes me mad...
_______________________
Seattle, Wash.: How come ABC News/Post poll has not yet polled on impeachment?
Richard Morin: Getting madder...
_______________________
Haymarket, Va.: With all the recent scandals and illegal/unconstitutional actions of the President, why hasn't ABC News/Washington Post polled whether the President should be impeached?
Richard Morin: Madder still...
_______________________
Dublin, Ireland: In a statement on Sunday, John Dean, former White House counsel during Watergate, stated that President Bush is "the first President to admit to an impeachable offense." Will The Washington Post be polling about impeachment of the President in the near future, now that this topic has taken on national significance?
Richard Morin: An impeachment demand from Ireland? Oh my gawd. Now I'm furious.
Let me explain.
For the past eight months or so, the major media pollsters have been the target of a campaign organized by a Democratic website demanding that we ask a question about impeaching Bush in our polls.
The website lists the e-mail addresses of every media pollster, reporters as well as others. The Post's ombudsman is even on their hit list.
The website helpfully provides draft language that can be cut-and-pasted into a blanket e-mail.
The net result is that every few months, when this website fires up the faithful with another call for e-mails, my mailbox is filled with dozens and dozens of messages that all read exactly the same (often from the same people, again and again). Most recently, a psychology professor from Arizona State University sent me the copy-and-paste e-mail, not a word or comma was changed. I only hope his scholarship is more original.
We first laughed about it. Now, four waves into this campaign,we are annoyed. Really, really annoyed.
Some free advice: You do your cause no service by organizing or participating in such a campaign. It is viewed by me and others with the same scorn reserved for junk mail. Perhaps a bit more.
That said. we do not ask about impeachment because it is not a serious option or a topic of considered discussion--witness the fact that no member of congressional Democratic leadership or any of the serious Democratic presidential candidates in '08 are calling for Bush's impeachment. When it is or they are, we will ask about it in our polls.
Enough, already.

Op-ed News Analysis: Did Bush Commit Illegal, Impeachable Acts?
Americans need to shout it out loud: "We the People" demand Impeachment hearings based on clear admissions, violations of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act -(FISA) and the 4th Amendment!" Spying on Americans without warrant is a CRIME! Simply informing a few Congressional members is absolutely NO excuse to circumvent law. These criminal activities are setting an 'evil' precedent in our country.
Each and every American need to write their elected members of Congress before there is NO turning back from the pure evil that litters this administration of liars. The elected members of this Congress have a sworn duty to 'protect and serve' each and every American. Congress also has the duty to uphold the laws, checks and balances, oversight and rights afforded to each and every American through the Constitution of the United States.
'Unchecked surveillance' of American citizens should be very troubling to all Americans and this Congress. This is all about the scales of Lady Justice! George W. admits to Illegal, unchecked wiretaps of American citizens while our Congress remains silent with hollow promises of inquiries. Americans are watching tyranny in the raw, evil and very corrupt form.
If Congress and Americans don't speak out with passion, courage and or conviction; Our freedoms and liberties are doomed under this regime of tyranny. Bush admits to an "impeachable offense" when he said he authorized the National Security Agency -(NSA) to spy on Americans without getting a warrant from a judge. Bypassing FISA is a 'criminal offense' with penalties of five -(5) years in prison and a fine of ten -(10) thousand dollar fine.
The Bush administration of liars spent the entire weekend trying to justify Bush’s actions, but there is no excuse for blatantly violating the law. If the President believed FISA was flawed, Bush and his Cronies should have gone before Congress and asked them to expand authority.
This unchecked, arrogant administration has lied the country into war that has killed tens of thousands. A war with a sovereign country that posed absolutely NO threat to the United States. In fact, Saudi Arabia has posed a greater danger with monetary and rhetorical support of terrorists! Saddam Hussein and this country of Iraq posed NO dangers to US citizens.
This administration along with their policies of lies, deceit and political trickery has killed tens of thousands, maimed thousands and racked up a whopping half trillion dollars of debt for what? A mistake! There is NO accountability and or responsibility for the massive death and destruction! Bush, Cheney and this entire WHIG group should be held accountable for each and every mistake. This administration should be held completely responsible for the secret Orders, Prisons, Torture and Spying on Americans without warrants.
Here's what all Americans now know! Teflon 'George W.' has broken the law, diverted funding for war, lied for a rush to war, spied on Americans and he did it with full consent and knowledge of some Congressional members. It is time for this Congress to demand Impeachment hearings. Right after these liars, criminals and political thugs are Impeached; They should be then tried in a criminal court and thrown in jail. Impeachment is not enough to correct the damage!
Tens of thousands have been murdered for doctrines of lies! Tens of thousands have been maimed for a doctrines of deceit, fear and political trickery. Five Hundred -(500) Billion tax dollars are being wasted to destroy then rebuild a country that never harmed Americans. When will this Inept and totally Corrupt Congress ACT on this lawless administration?
All Americans want to hear the "raw truth" for a change! What a novel idea for this elected body of Congress to start leveling with all Americans! This administration went to war solely for access and control of oil spigots. This war had NOTHING to do with Democracy and or Freedom. If Democracy and Freedom was the "root cause" for this war in Iraq; we'd be inciting wars with each and every country that is ruled by dictators. Iraq was supposed to be the easy mark with the vast oil fields.
This Wednesday, on the Senate floor; all Senators have an opportunity to address the growing death and destruction in Iraq! Bush, Cheney and this entire regime of Criminal Liars are solely responsible for well over thirty -(30) thousand very "Innocent" human beings that have been "killed" and or "murdered" in Iraq with absolutely NO end in sight. By all accounts, this war is Immoral and all those who support the Bush, Cheney plans for Iraq are also Immoral to the CORE.
The real "majority" of Americans are sickened by each and every LIE for this war and how to end this mass killing of innocent Iraqis for their oil spigots! Americans are also damn "sick and tired" of long speeches of democracy and freedom in Iraq. Hello! Iraq is an Occupied Country. The Bush administration has thrown Iraq; a once sovereign country into a full-blown "civil war" and the true "killing fields" in the middle east. Countless thousands have been murdered, maimed, tortured and forced to concede to the deceitful policies of Bush, Cheney and this Whig Group.
Ultimately, it's the duty of all Americans is to shout it out loud: "We, the people of these United States are disgusted, nauseated with all the lies, corruption, incompetence and political trickery that continue to litter OUR government!" The incompetence, corruption, lies and political trickery is 'way out of control' with absolutely NO oversight from OUR elected officials in Congress.
"This administration -(Whig) deliberately ignored evidence, intelligence and only looked at what supported a case for war.
Wilkerson, a former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell
In history, many tyrants, rulers, kings and dictators have used every 'avenue of fear' to incite the masses. These tyrants exploited the naive, ignorant and or unknowledgeable. Today, every American has been slam dunked into 'mushroom clouds' of fear to promote an unqualified war and this president -(Bush) of these United States has become all-too-powerful with absolutely NO oversight from our elected leaders in Congress and or mainstream media folks!
This war of lies was deliberately marketed -(Whig) to each and every American, Congress and the world stage. A war for 9-11, WMD's with imminent threats of mushroom clouds to incite fear. A war with ever changing rationales. That was then and this is NOW!
The Bush, Cheney report card for war is very dark, dreary and dismal! Our men and women were misled into a war with the majority of thinking Americans completely appalled and sickened by the massive death, complete destruction and occupation of a country that posed NO danger or threat to the United States.
This war in Iraq is responsible for the killing, maiming and torture of tens of thousands innocent human beings with absolutely NO end in sight. The "trust, confidence and humanity" of these United States has been seriously eroded by the Bush Administration. It's a senseless war conceived by a regime -(Whig) of liars and Incompetents!
The executive -(Bush) has NO right, in any case, to decide the question, whether there is or is not cause for declaring war.
~~ James Madison ~~
A 'Silence' to Evil should never be an option! Americans are 'viewing' the most evil and corrupt administration that has ever littered these United States of America! The Acts of Killing, Maiming, Torture, Chemicals -(WP - Shake, Bake Missions), Secret Prisons along with Media manipulation are just a few noted signs of the pure evil in power.
If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land,
it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.
~~ James Madison ~~
This War in Iraq has been pure EVIL from its conception! Americans should 'pray' for each and every innocent life lost in Iraq. These incompetent, pathetic, deceptive and cowardly leaders of deceitful rhetoric should be responsible for each and every life affected by this immoral war for oil spigots. Each and every American should 'demand' an immediate END to the killing, maiming and torture of the innocence!
Not one (1) Iraqi harmed and or threatened Americans ON, before and or after 9-11-2001. Iraqis and Americans are being killed, maimed for the crimes of the Saudis and various other countries that DO support terror. This EVIL war has done nothing but throw Iraq into a true killing field for power and control for the Chalabis.
Americans should pray for the tens of thousands of innocent lives destroyed, maimed, and tortured in the name of 'Slam Dunk' rationales. The Bush, Cheney administration is solely accountable and responsible for the death of each and every innocent life in Iraq. Inciting, Initiating and starting a war with a country that had absolutely nothing to do with 9-11 and or WMDs is pure evil.
Well, over two -(2) thousand Americans along with thirty -(30) thousands Innocent Iraqis are dead through deceitful arguments of 9-11, WMD and many ever changing rationales of deceit litter with political trickery. Every rationale has been soundly defeated and according to Dr. Blix; Iraq was cooperating. Even Colin Powell stated that his UN speech was a low point of his tenure. Where was all this 'Slam Dunk' evidence with 'Iraqi oil' paying for this unqualified war? Was it all a Lie?
"Shame on Bush" and this entire regime of liars -- supporters! Bush has continued to use tactics of fear to incite and distract the masses. The 'psychology of fear' is used in each and every speech to justify this unqualified war with total occupation. There is NO end game in Iraq by design. There will be NO democracy and or freedom in Iraq as long as the US and occupying troops remain. Speeches of democracy and freedom with total military occupation is a sad joke on Americans.
Each and every speech is littered with references to 9-11-2001. This flawed and false policy of war with permanent occupation in Iraq has triggered the potential for daily violence in Iraq and around the world. NO country wants to be occupied by foreign troops. The permanent occupation of Iraq continues to be the ultimate goal -- plan. There is NO exit strategy in Iraq by design! The 'killing fields of Iraq' will haunt all Americans for decades.
The Bush, Cheney Regime -(Whig) of liars have 'silenced' well over thirty -(30) thousand dead Iraqis with a countless number of wounded, maimed and tortured. The only 'silence' in this unqualified war for oil is the tens of thousands murdered for control of the vast oil fields of Iraq. Has the Bush, Cheney speeches 'silenced' the new majority of Americans today?
Hell NO!
This administration manipulated intelligence to sell each and every American on a rush for WAR! The majority of Americans still want answers to the 'mushroom clouds' of fear, deceit and political trickery in the lead up to war. A war with a country that posed absolutely NO threat or harm to Americans. The 'slam dunk' arguments for war were deliberately perpetrated through every avenue of fear to incite, initiate and provoke a war in Iraq.
Bush, Cheney and this entire regime of incompetence started a war with a country that posed NO danger to the US. Today, tomorrow and the future; all Americans are now asked to 'stay the course' to clean up this mess in Iraq! The Bush, Cheney Oil Tanker is responsible for massive death and destruction with absolutely NO end in sight.
The Bush, Cheney Oil Tanker has hit the iceberg of public opinion! The neo-cons vessel of corruption, distortions, distractions and deceit are taking on water and sinking fast. The neo-evil-cons along with most conservative Democrats are jumping over this sinking ship! The "vast oceans of truth" are pouring in through every crack. The Republicans are gathering to trample and smear liberal Democrats as a means to survive the bitterly cold oceans of truth!
The majority of Americans are NO longer fooled by the Bush, Cheney rhetorical speeches of lies with distractions, distortions from the truth. Americans know that Iraq will be the Bush, Cheney legacy of lies for vast oil spigots. A legacy built solely on deceit and political trickery for a war with a country that posed NO threat to Americans. A legacy of death, destruction, maiming, torture, chemicals and secret prisons for vast oil fields in Iraq.
The winds of change are blowing freely with absolutely NO help and or support from this Inept Congress and or the Mainstream - Corporate media folks; Our investigative, freethinking, and patriotic Americans have turned the tide on this corrupt regime of liars that marketed their deceptive war with ever changing rationales of fear to incite. The game plans -(Whig) of the Bush - Cheney regime have been exposed!
Once called the minority; the new majority of all "Thinking Americans" know that Bush -- Cheney lied this country into a war for oil spigots. Just under Sixty-seven -(67%) percent of all thinking Americans are now on the same page! Make NO mistake here! "Thinking Americans are extremely patriotic since they would never send Our young men and women into harms way for blatant lies of false and flawed agendas marketed -(Whig) with ever changing rationales!"
In Bush's own words........(AP)--President George W. Bush Tuesday answered growing anti- war protests with a fresh reason for American troops to continue fighting in Iraq: "protecting that country's vast oil fields!"
Americans can see that there are NO morals and or ethics in this very dark, deceptive White House littered with hypocritical Christians that hold NO value for human life. Tens of thousands have been killed, tens of thousands have been maimed, tortured, chemicals to shake & bake with secret prisons of torture. The War Critics and or Congress won't have to rewrite history. The history and legacy of this administration has already been etched in stone.
"We, the People" expect Our Congress to speak-out and ACT on behave of the sixty-seven -(67%) percent of Americans. Congress has the ability to STOP supporting this war with a country that posed NO threat -- danger to the United States! The WMD threats -- dangers that were built solely on a platform of fear to incite war. In the real world of justice; Americans don't invade, kill, maim, torture and or occupy their neighbors just because they 'thought' without documented prove of an imminent threat. Hello! Iraq was absolutely NO threat!
"We, the People" of these United States were Slam Dunked with mushroom clouds of fear and lies! Each and every American deserve answers to this war in Iraq. A war with a country that posed NO threat to the United States. This war has killed and maimed thousands of innocent human beings! A war that produced NO WMD, NO terror links and squandered five hundred-fifty -($550) billion dollars of US tax dollars! A war expense that was supposed to be covered by the oil spigots of Iraq. Hello!
Once again, Bush, Cheney and their administrative cronies try to attack the intelligence of each American. Americans have grown damn 'sick and tired' of the 'scare -- distraction speeches' with finger pointing that led this country into a war for oil spigots! Americans are quite aware of all the 'political players' that are accountable and responsible for this unqualified war that has killed thousands.
Hello People! This war is all about the death and destruction of innocent human beings! Innocent human beings that played NO part in 9-11 and or threats against Americans. War is NO longer 'politics' when tens of thousands are killed, maimed, tortured and or held in secret prisons. Bush, Cheney and this regime of deceit made the choice to invade and occupy a sovereign country that posed absolutely NO threat to the United States.
Each and every elected official in this country should be held accountable and responsible for their actions or lack of! Each and every elected leader must be held accountable to ALL Americans. All Americans demand answers with remedy to all the lies of political trickery from this White House! Ultimately, Our Illustrious leaders are accountable and responsible for the Death, Destruction and Fortunes lost in this war with a country that posed NO danger to the US.
George W. Bush and Dick Cheney used their absolute influence of 'public media' coverage -- access to market a 'campaign of fear' for support of war! A group called WHIG marketed a war through every avenue of FEAR. This entire 'White House Iraq Group' is solely accountable and responsible for each and every death in Iraq since all rationales were proven WRONG.
"We the People" of the United States believe it's time for this Congress to ACT. The Bush, Cheney regime of liars- (Whig) used the psychology of fear -- distraction to launch an unjustified -- unqualified war in Iraq. Each and every American, Congress and the UN were misled through every avenue of deceit, distraction, fear and political trickery. A few of the several hundred statements of fear to incite war!

Here's what the "Majority of Americans" now know:
1. The Bush, Cheney administration of liars -(Whig) has misled Americans into a unqualified war with rhetorical speeches of fear.
2. This unqualified war in Iraq was a HUGE mistake while racking up HUGE deficits.
3. The Majority want this war ended and bring our troops home ASAP
4. The Majority of Americans don't trust Bush, Cheney and this regime of liars -(Whig).
"Americans deserve total Honesty with
Responsibility and Accountability!"

unqualified, invalidated, and immoral war
with ever changing slam dunk rationales!"

Great post, except I wouldn't call them incompetent or inept; they had a mission which they accomplished very competently, although it's not what the American people thought was their mission.
Their mission was to loot resources from this country and others, for the wealthy INDIVIDUALS who financed their campaigns, and who provide cover for them through their media outlets.
Those hundreds of billions of dollars didn't go up in smoke; they went to corporations, mostly owned by the wealthy. Merely throwing these fascists out of office and imprisoning them won't remedy the economic terrorism that has been committed against the American people.
There must be penalties against the corporations that put the Republicans into office and that received the benefit of the corruption. Conspiracy charges against corporations that contributed heavily to Republicans and that also received millions of dollars in government contracts, are a good place to start.
Mr. Morin should take a look at other public opinion polls which clearly indicate that "main stream" Americans are quite serious about impeaching Bush and many of the rest of his gang of political thugs.
He is just another apologist, like his fellow WaPo hack Woodward, for the Bush administration. WaPo personnel love being on the inside with the Bush power elite. That makes them feel important and they can't allow some insignificant concept like journalistic integrity spoil those warm and fuzzy feelings for their elite friends.
I also might suggest that, as of today, there are several Democrats calling for impeachment of Bush and Cheney. There are many Constitutional scholars and attorneys who have come forward to advise that Bush has admitted to perpetrating impeachable offenses.
So, I ask you, Mr. Morin: Why are you afraid to ask the public the simple question about impeachment, especially in light of Bush's admissions Sunday and yesterday? I think I know the answer: you know what the result will be and your elite friends will not be happy, will they?
Don't you just love when a formerly respected publication renders itself an enabler and an accomplice to criminal activity?
Letter sent to Washington Post Editor
Dear Sir,
I read about your arrogant and totally irresponsible statements concerning polling about impeachment of the administration.
What will it take ?
The president admitted publicly that he violated the law in wiretapping US citizens without obtaining a warrant.
The Bush admin violated the UN Charter which US laws recognizes by aggression against another sovereign nation without provocation.
The Bush admin has violated US law by trashing the Geneva convention through unlawful detention and torture.
The Bush administration has violated US laws on use of chemical weapons (white phosphorous and napalm).
The Bush administration lied to Congress and the people to wage this war.
The Bush administration has spied on peaceful opposition groups.
The Bush administration has violated the law by planting propaganda in the media.
Because the Post and the other media have become part of the administration propaganda machine and refuses to seriously discuss and point out that all these offenses are impeachable , you say the story is not news worthy and won't report on it !
A day of reckoning is coming and as Dylan said, "A hard rain's goin' to fall". Is the Post editor going to be indicted as part of those that abetted the war crimes in Iraq ?

"...we do not ask about impeachment because it is not a serious option or a topic of considered discussion--witness the fact that no member of congressional Democratic leadership or any of the serious Democratic presidential candidates in '08 are calling for Bush's impeachment. When it is or they are, we will ask about it in our polls."
Mr. Morin:
Are you paying attention to what is happening in your own back yard, sir? Impeachment is not a serious option? Are you kidding?
Do you need to be reminded that every reason we were given for the invasion of Iraq has proven false? Does it not matter to you that the documents upon which Mr. Bush's false claim of an Iraq/Niger uranium deal (a cornerstone of his war justification) are proven forgeries? Are you not the least bit concerned that the president claimed we do not torture, while threatening to veto the defense spending bill simply because it includes a provision banning torture?
Surely I don't need to remind you that Congress works for the people. When the people speak, Congress must listen. Not the other way around, sir. The fact that no Congressional leaders or serious Democratic presidential candidates are calling for impeachment is irrelevant here.
THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS:
Think this war was a mistake.
Disapprove of the way this war is being handled.
Think Bush deliberately lied to them.
Think Bush has no real plan for victory.
And now we have the President of the United States publicly admitting to the impeachable offense of spying on American citizens without a warrant, and defiantly vowing to continue doing it.
And you will not address the impeachment question because no Congressional leaders or serious presidential candidates are not talking about it?
Stop playing politics and do your job or step aside to make room for a real journalist.

The Bush administration is finally facing the music....took a long time to get there. There culpability is no longer in doubt. The lies and affronts to the constitution are becoming clearer every day. I never liked this president or his henchmen. I could never fathom why noone else saw what I saw.
I always found this president to be scary and so UN-american. His flagrant disregard for the constition and his willingness to twist the meaning to fit his own agenda is criminal. His cohorts like big oil and the pharmacueticals have been getting away with murder. Time to pay the piper. If it was a democratic president who dared to do the things he has done, he would have been impeached so fast his head would spin.He has flaunted his power and purposefully gotten this country into a war that we never should have gotten into in the first place. And that war was ALWAYS ABOUT OIL. DUH
Richard....When Bill Clinton lied about a personal encounter with an intern we were ready to impeach him. His offense was destructive to him, the intern and their families. If our present president did not make a practice of lying to the citizens of our country then he is far too enept to continue in office. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL STATEMENT>>>>>
these guys are so Republican and Corrupt, that's why they like the idea of protecting this cucaracha in the white house masquerading as a commander in cheeze.
did everyone notice the lack of coverage in yesterday's televised news broadcasts, as well?
the written news media in this country is totally unbelievable and therefore cannot ever again be trusted with it's responsibility to protect democracy. the WaPo is a shill for this criminal enterprise running the country and it needs to be boycotted.
Good Morning Mr. Morin,
I just finished reading your comments about being flooded with identical e-mails from groups pushing for a poll about whether Bush and Cheney should be impeached. I agree that many people don't have the skills or time to write personal notes, this is America, we like it fast and easy. Personally I couldn't give a damn about polls, polls are crap. Now the day they invent an unbiased poll I might be in favor of it, but I think they are as poor a substitute for the nuances of individual thought as say bulk e-mail for instance.
Interestingly enough many papers do the same thing, just regurgitate the official reports from AP, Reuters and White House propaganda without taking the time to do the investigations themselves. Everyone cheats. When was the last time - aside from the 2000 elections - where two broadcast news stations had different opinions? That's uncanny.. we can't get three people in a room to agree on a topic, but every major media outlet seems to share the exact same views - where's the originality in that? Anyway, don't get angry, I'm just making a point.
Well you did state in your comments that once a member of Congress floated the idea of impeachment it might become worthy of consideration. Personally I'm surprised that all of this is coming from illegal wiretapping, I would have thought war crimes, torture and lying to congress would have been enough, but I guess stuff like this pisses off the Libertarian wing of the Republican Party and with an election year right around the corner, people need to disassociate with the corruption at the top - really doesn't matter the damage is already done. Anyway I would hope that now you will find this discussion a valid subject for debate.
President Bush and V.P. Cheney have violated many federal laws, many parts of the U.S. Constitution, U.N. laws and international laws since they took office in January 2001.
Both are liers, corrupt, dishonest, crooked and pathological liers. Dick Cheney is the most foul mouthed elected official I can recall in my 50 years of adulthood. It is opvious the have no respect for law and order and our Constitution, guaranteed freedoms and rights. Money from giant corporations is the main thing they are interested in and destroying the U.S. economy and the country as well. They also hate the truth.
Ah. So much for the days of real journalists who had their thumb on the pulse of the American people. Today's media is simply playing follow the leader.
I get my news one to three days before it even hits the major papers. Between that fact, and the absolute lack of original thinking (and nerve) in editors/op eds/"reporters"...well, we don't need you anymore. You're well on your way to obsoletism.
I'm old enough to remember when the Soviet Union was the big bad bear in the woods. I remember a time when bomb drills were a common part of shool activities, we were afraid that those evil Russians would send an atom bomb and they were equally afraid of us doing the same thing.
Back then we were told how horrible the citizens of the Soviet Union were treated under Communism, their government didn't trust it's citizens and routinely conducted secret spying to monitor their activities.
Is it a matter that spying on citizens in a democracy is somehow different than spying on citizens under a Communist regime?
Mr. Bush is guided by a system that did not exist in the old Soviet Union, his power is meant to be limited so that it doesn't inflict itself into the basic rights and freedoms we are guaranteed as Americans ... their's was not.
Any comparisons drawn from the above is up to you ....
PEACE,
Reggie
I respectfully request that the Washington Post, in a future poll, ask Americans their feelings about impeaching the President a) if they believed he lied about reasons for invading Iraq, b) now that the President feels he can ignore the FISA laws, c) he has authorized various spy agencies to spy on Americans.
You are hesitant to run such a poll because as you have stated, "That said. we do not ask about impeachment because it is not a serious option or a topic of considered discussion--witness the fact that no member of congressional Democratic leadership or any of the serious Democratic presidential candidates in '08 are calling for Bush's impeachment. When it is or they are, we will ask about it in our polls."
My questions to you are simply these: Have you had an opportunity to look at various poll results regarding this subject?* And do you believe that responsible investigative journalism waits for Congressional leaders to make the first move when a matter of import is being discussed among citizens? I wonder if, just like Bob Woodward, the Washington Post has developed too close a relationship with Washington leaders and thereby has squandered its credibility?
As regards the question of considered discussion, millions of Americans are discussing this very topic. Just because the Congress is dominated by Republicans, doesn't mean that the Democrats haven't considered it. Politically it is impossible at this time for impeachment to move forward, but that doesn't mean the topic hasn't been considered.
You give Americans too little credit for being able to think for themselves about matters of national importance. Who knows what the 2006 elections will bring?

Here's what I said to Mr Morin...
Hi, I'm sorry it makes you mad that people want you to do a poll on the public's opinion regarding the impeachment of President Bush but I feel I have to write and ask you to do so too. You see it makes me mad that this 'president' lied to the world in order to start and illegal and immoral war and I think it would be good to know how many people agree that an impeachable offense should lead to impeachment.
This is a serious request, please hold this poll and make the results public and please reply and let me know whether you do indeed intend so to do and why not.
Yours in ludicrous optimism,
Phil
PS I promise I'm not Irish. It seems you get particularly mad when people who aren't American take an interest in things which affect them such as the violent, bullying government of the most powerful and violent nation on earth (which has of course, illegally been using Shannon airport to run its illegal war)
