What are They Hiding? Obama Administration Defending Black Site Prison at Bagram Airbase

By Dave Lindorff

A victory for the government in a federal court in New York City Monday marks another slide deeper into Dick Cheney’s “dark side” for the Obama Administration.

In a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union, which has been seeking to force the Pentagon to provide information about all captives it is holding at its huge prison facility at Bagram Airbase outside Kabul in Afghanistan, Federal District Judge Barbara Jones of the Southern District of New York has issued a summary judgement saying that the government may keep that information secret.

The lingering question is: Why does the US government so adamantly want to hide information about where captives were first taken into military custody, their citizenship, the length of their captivity, and the circumstances under which they were captured?

Walk for Peace Permit Need in Question

Skowhegan permit at issue for peace walk

October 27 2010 - One of the organizers of the Sunday vigils for peace in Skowhegan and a supporter of a planned peace march next month left Skowhegan selectmen with more questions than answers Tuesday night.

University students and Buddhist monks, along with local activists and members of Veterans for Peace, are scheduled to march across the state in November to draw attention to the affects of war and war spending on the economy, Mark Roman of Solon said Tuesday.

Veterans for Peace, in conjunction with Waterville Area Bridges for Peace and Justice, are set to walk through central Maine beginning Nov. 2 -- Election Day. The Maine Walk for Peace, Human Needs and Veterans Care is slated to start in Farmington, Roman said.

Major WikiLeaks press conference in Europe coming up.....

WikiLeaks plans 'major' announcement in Europe

Just minutes ago - 22 October 2010 - The WikiLeaks website appears close to releasing what the Pentagon fears is the largest cache of secret U.S. documents in history — hundreds of thousands of intelligence reports compiled after the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

In a message posted to its Twitter page on Thursday, the organization said there was a "major WikiLeaks press conference in Europe coming up." WikiLeaks has not commented publicly on the imminent announcement.

Their disclosure would be the most massive leak of secret documents in U.S. history, and defense officials are racing to contain the damage.

“A Complete Non-Issue”

National Security “A Complete Non-Issue”?

15 October 2010 - Campaign events this week highlighted again how little thought conservatives are devoting to national security, including the two wars our nation is fighting - and how dangerously extreme and ill-informed they can be. From Sharron Angle's ludicrous proposal to privatize the Department of Veterans Affairs to Christine O'Donnell's confusion between Iraq and Afghanistan, the Tea Party candidates seem to subscribe to Rand Paul's comment that foreign policy "is a complete non-issue" - a shocking commentary in wartime. When the issue does come up, conservatives find themselves split between polar extremes: neoconservative interventionism and extreme isolationism. As Pat Buchanan described it, it's the "Tea Party vs. War Party." {read rest}

Three years before: Mumbai Attack!!

Whoops looks like another point of total incompetence, or more likely a want that it was true so their wars and hate rhetoric could continue, by the cheney and his puppet's administration!! All the better for them if Americans were killed, and they were!!

Destroying the National security more, reaping the war blood wealth for themselves and their tight knit group of extreme hawks!

Judge stops 'don't ask, don't tell'

Judge stops 'don't ask, don't tell' policy with worldwide injunction in landmark case

October 12, 2010 - A federal judge issued a worldwide injunction Tuesday stopping enforcement of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, ending the U.S. military's 17-year-old ban on openly gay troops.

U.S. District Court Judge Virginia Phillips' landmark ruling was widely cheered by gay rights organizations that credited her with getting accomplished what President Obama and Washington politics could not.

U.S. Department of Justice attorneys have 60 days to appeal. Legal experts say they are under no legal obligation to do so and could let Phillips' ruling stand. {read rest}

9 September 2010 - The mother of a U.S. soldier is speaking out on the Koran-burning controversy. She says Pastor Terry Jones does not understand the consequences that will come after burning the Koran... she says he is out of touch with the impact that this will have on our troops and their families.

"This is going to endanger our troops some of them might not come home safely," says Laureen Chischilly, whose son is about to go on his 5th deployment to the Middle East.

Chischilly has been on pins and needles, while Pastor Jones wavers between burning and not burning the Muslim book of prayers. {read more}

UPDATE - Live from Ft. Hood, Webcast of Protest Against 3rd Armored Cav Redeployment

Update - The military has taken the highly unusual decision to deploy the 3rd ACR in the middle of the night, tonight, under cover of darkness.  The protesters have stated they will confront the deployment with "radical, direct action" whatever the hour.  See latest update video below. If you keep your computer on tonight with this page up it will automatically play when broadcast recommences.

Using webcam technology, the anti-war soldier's coffee house outside of Ft. Hood, Texas is providing video updates and webcasting live the protest against redeployment of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment this month to Iraq. Protesters include active-duty soldiers (off-duty), veterans, soldiers families and supporters. Ft. Hood is the largest military base in the nation. The Under the Hood Cafe website reads:

More Domestic Criminal Terror! and Silence Following?

One wonders, not really very hard, why we readily call others, who have done nothing, 'terrorist', just because of where they might be from or their religious beliefs, and we get never ending opinion talk and pure propaganda {lies} about as a whole group and not the extremist using, yet something like this happens and it gets very little news play. You have to search it out rather then hear anyone report on or seriously talk about. A most certainly 'domestic criminal terrorist' act seemingly hell bent on taking out as many police or innocent people as possible, all because, apparently, he's a white guy in Texas. Will he become the new hero of certain groups within our society, much like the Austin Pilot Did or others that seek to be the next McVeighs as Individuals or in Groups!!

Nixon Admin: Death of Dan Mitrione

TO SAVE DAN MITRIONE NIXON ADMINISTRATION URGED DEATH THREATS FOR URUGUAYAN PRISONERS

Posted – August 11, 2010 - In Response Uruguayan Security Forces Launched Death Squads to Hunt and Kill Insurgents

Washington, D.C., August 11, 2010 - Documents posted by the National Security Archive on the 40th anniversary of the death of U.S. advisor Dan Mitrione in Uruguay show the Nixon administration recommended a “threat to kill [detained insurgent] Sendic and other key [leftist insurgent] MLN prisoners if Mitrione is killed.” The secret cable from U.S. Secretary of State William Rogers, made public here for the first time, instructed U.S. Ambassador Charles Adair: “If this has not been considered, you should raise it with the Government of Uruguay at once.”

So far so good, but hang on to your hat: This Thing's Gonna Blow!

By Dave Lindorff

What the hell are they thinking in Washington, and down at the “Unified Command” in New Orleans, letting BP try to close off the oil volcano spewing out the top of the damaged Blowout Preventer (BOP) stack?

And what the hell is the mainstream press doing not asking about the clear evidence of oil or gas spewing out under pressure from cracks in the seafloor around the base of the BOP? (See the image of oil spewing from the sea floor here.)

Sure the initial partial closing of the valves is working, but they haven’t built up much pressure yet, and a lot could go wrong. seriously wrong, and there’s good reason to think it will.
