Suspicious of government assurances that a planned desert explosion will not rekindle radioactive fallout from past events, Westerners and Native Americans want the plan halted.
Michelle Thomas's mother took great pains to protect her children from what she suspected was something unhealthy in the dust that settled on the lawns, the cars and the houses every time a mushroom cloud appeared over the Nevada desert. Such memories have been roused recently by fears that the military will stir that dust back up by bombing the area once again.

Scientists Prepare to Move Doomsday Clock Forward

The keepers of the "Doomsday Clock" plan to move its hands forward next Wednesday to reflect what they call worsening nuclear and climate threats to the world.
The symbolic clock, maintained by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, currently is set at seven minutes to midnight, with midnight marking global catastrophe.
Defense is attempting to go through with its $23 million experiment, known as Divine Strake, in the first half of this year.

US forces have stormed an Iranian consulate in the northern Iraqi town of Irbil and seized six members of staff.
The troops raided the building at about 0300 (0001GMT), taking away computers and papers, according to Kurdish media and senior local officials.
The US military would only confirm the detention of six people around Irbil.
Tehran said the attack violated all international conventions. It has summoned ambassadors from Switzerland, representing US interests, and Iraq.
A spokesman for Iran's foreign ministry described the raid as an attempt to sabotage Tehran's relations with Iraq. One Iranian MP said it showed America's cruelty and meanness.

To impeach or not to impeach, that is the question.
Personally, I think it's nobler to suffer some slings and arrows from the Coulters, Limbaughs and O'Riellys of this world; than to let the principles set forth in the Constitution be nullified. I can tell you something else. It will be a helluva lot easier to pressure our representatives to impeach now, than when we are the guests of some government gated community. If you know what I mean.
