Protest Primer: CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE
Civil disobedience
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protest
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_disobedience
Civil disobedience encompasses the active refusal to obey certain laws, demands and commands of a government or of an occupying power without resorting to physical violence. It could be said that it is compassion in the form a respectful disagreement. Civil disobedience has been used in nonviolent resistance movements in India (Gandhi's social welfare campaigns and campaigns to speed up independence from the British Empire), in South Africa in the fight against apartheid, and in the American Civil Rights Movement. The American author Henry David Thoreau pioneered the modern theory behind this practice in his 1849 essay Civil Disobedience (Wikisource Text), originally titled "Resistance to Civil Government". The driving idea behind the essay was that of selfreliance, and how one is in morally good standing as long as one can "get off another man's back"; so one doesn't have to physically fight the government, but one must not support it or have it support one (if one is against it). This essay has had a wide influence on many later practitioners of civil disobedience. In the essay, Thoreau explained his reasons for having refused to pay taxes as an act of protest against slavery and against the Mexican-American War.
Anti-Agitprop: FALSE DILEMMA
Techniques of Propaganda Generation: False dilemma
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propaganda
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black-and-white_fallacy
The logical fallacy of false dilemma—also known as falsified dilemma, fallacy of the excluded middle, black and white thinking, false dichotomy, false correlative, either/or fallacy and bifurcation—involves a situation in which two alternative points of view are held to be the only options, when in reality there exist one or more other options which have not been considered. The two alternatives presented are often, though not always, the two extreme points on some spectrum. Instead of such extreme simplification and wishful thinking, considering the whole spectrum, as in fuzzy logic, may be more appropriate.

Anti-Agitprop: APPEAL TO AUTHORITY
Techniques of Propaganda Generation: Appeal to authority
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propaganda
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeal_to_authority
An appeal to authority or argument by authority is a type of argument in logic, consisting on basing the truth value of an otherwise unsupported assertion on the authority, knowledge or position of the person asserting it. It is also known as argument from authority, argumentum ad verecundiam (Latin: argument to respect) or ipse dixit (Latin: he himself said it). It is one method of obtaining propositional knowledge, but a fallacy in regards to logic, because the validity of a claim does not follow from the credibility of the source. The corresponding reverse case would be an ad hominem attack: to imply that the claim is false because the asserter is objectionable.

Penny Patriotism
Have you noticed how few, by comparison, little ribbon magnets there are now?
What happened?
Notice how many little ribbon magnets have migrated to the sides of vehicles?
Some ambivalence about the commercial support for the troops?
And, why are the few ribbons being replaced shrinking?
Patriotism tied to profit margin?
Just wondering. Easy on. Easy off. I guess.
It was easy to buy magnets and little flags - lots of them. But, how will we pay for what happened to our troops and to our rights.
Easy off. Not so easy on. Legs and things, I mean.

11 September, 2006 Day of Glory!
Dear Mr. President,
I’ve thrown away all the liquids in my house. My son wasn’t happy because he likes milk in his cereal, but I called him a coward and a Nazi and slapped him and he shut up. I have also instituted a mandatory I.D. check when departing or arriving the nuclear family abode. That’s been tough because I have to take our five family dobermans, three pit bulls and a rottwieller for walkies. I always carry my driver’s license, but getting close enough to the dogs to check their collar tags can be really hard sometimes.
